Page 10 - In which the band heads West. Drives get longer, sky gets bigger,
shows are performed in Boulder, Salt Lake City and Portland

  Oct. 11, N. Platte, Nebraska

We've started the second column of tour dates on the back of the tour t-shirt... I guess that means the tour is half over.

Stopped on the road last night, after a full day's drive toward Boulder, Colorado. I won't go on about the distances in drives this week - suffice it to say that to play the next three shows, we will travel 2,200 miles.

I enjoy the way, when you're driving West, and reach Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Montana... the sky seems to expand and get bigger.

I think I'd better clean that windshield soon!

  Oct. 12, on the road

Today only a few hours left to go to reach Boulder.
Morning presents a rousing sight out my window.

Great to be back at the Boulder Theater - a venue we always like to play

Show about to start, just a peek to see if people have come in...

Markus and Julie enjoy the ambience just offstage...

Markus during the Stick Men set

and an attempt at a shot of the audience...

Ready to all go on for the Crimson encores...

Oct. 12, heading for Salt Lake City

Up early, with a long way to drive to the show today.

We aren't in a mood to hula hoop, so this warning isn't needed today.

Moon's still hanging out over the mountains...

Driving through Wyoming now...

and whatever sights there are attract your attention. I sent this photo off to Bill Bruford, telling him it reminded us of him, perhaps it's a distant relative!

Salt Lake City - the venue is one I haven't played before

It's a nice one

A bit of a 'Hello Cleveland' route to get from the basement dressing rooms to the stage...

Adrian's set...

and...

Whee... a good time had by all - band and audience.

We sign and pose for photos - then pack up the gear, load the van - then another half hour or so, up the highway heading North, where we'll have a whopping distance to go tomorrow.

1am, checked into a hotel... a little energy left to start updating the web page!

  Oct. 13, somewhere in Idaho

It's another tour 'day off' ... I'm going to find another name for it, since l've realized what happens on these days is that you don't get to do what you love to do; make music... but you do get to travel in the van ... and a lot... and there aren't many of us who love that!

When your GPS says to you 'stay on this road for 725 miles' you know you're in for a serious trip!

The scenery is pretty interesting, when you feel like watching it.

Pat does a phone interview from the back seat ...

We listen to gig tapes, we switch drivers every 4 or 5 hours...

Utah becomes Idaho, becomes Oregon... we switch drivers...

And so, dear readers, we limp into Portland by 8:30pm, happy to have two nights coming in the same place.

Tomorrow we'll get back to what we do best - playing the show, at the Alladin, here in Portland.

  Oct. 14, Portland

Ahh, the pleasure of a morning free. And in a lovely city, Portland. It's not raining yet (though it poured on our way in last night) and I'm concerned, because it always rains when I'm in Portland. (Maybe because it always rains in Portland!)
Anyway, I'm making the best of it. Grabbed lunch in one of the many food stands here, which all have very good food. Then a bit of organizing my quilt pieces, and it's pretty much time to head to the venue.

Book shopping at Powells used to be a must, when in Portland, but now with a trove of books in my iPad, I don't need a re-fill!

Good old Aladdin Theater - I last played here with HoBoLeMa, about a year ago.

Some treats for us backstage ... vegan doughnuts, in pretty unusual shapes...

A nice group at the meet 'n greet

Once again, Julie (bassist with Adrian's Power Trio) found a kitchen backstage and is cooking up a storm...

and the aroma is attracting musicians like flies...

No problem keeping us away from early tasting, she's highly trained in Kale martial arts...

Later, in the Stick Men set, we'd mention this soup in the introduction to our piece Soup, and I thought I saw Julie onstage with the pot of soup... but couldn't get my camera out in time, so there's no evidence!

Showtime...

A little Slow Glide

Markus, in B'boom

Very enthusiastic audience. We were sad to end the show!

Tomorrow, a few hours drive to Seattle, and show at the Triple Door.
